Becoming Godly: A Path to Self-Creation Through Torah and Psychology

About the Book
Many people live lives with so little clarity of purpose and struggle to make meaningful choices. From major decisions like marriage to everyday ones like talking to a friend, our choices are building blocks of our identity that shape us and lead us towards a more or less meaningful life. Becoming Godly offers a path—based on Torah and psychology—to a more meaningful life. By exploring how understanding Torah, Hashem, our values and ourselves helps us make intentional choices, we can transform ourselves, find meaning and fulfill our Divine purpose.

About the Author
Rabbi Yosef Sokol, Ph.D., is well positioned to bridge the worlds of Torah and psychology. As a licensed clinical psychologist, faculty member at Touro University's PsyD program in Clinical Psychology, and research scientist at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Sokol brings together extensive Talmudic scholarship with rigorous academic training.
In his book, "Becoming Godly: Integrating Torah and Psychology to Guide Us in Emulating Hashem," Dr. Sokol offers a transformative guide to self-creation and purposeful living. Drawing on his pioneering Continuous Identity Cognitive Therapy (CI-CT) and decades of Torah study, he reveals how aligning daily choices with higher values, informed by both Torah and psychology, leads to a life of deeper meaning and fulfillment.
Dr. Sokol's research at the Bronx VA Medical Center focuses on developing recovery-oriented treatments, particularly for individuals with suicidal ideation and those recovering from post-COVID-19 conditions. His innovative CI-CT model was developed with multiple grants from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He shares his expertise through teaching at Touro University's PsyD program and mentoring the next generation of psychologists.
Dr. Sokol received smicha from Yeshivas Bais Yosef Novardok and earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Hofstra University. He is driven by a passion to help individuals find more meaning and purpose in their lives. He welcomes your inquiries and feedback at yosef.sokol@touro.edu.
